Psychology: The change starts within you.
Hello, beautiful people. This is Reedam here and moreover this is very first post. So, I heartily welcome myself and you all readers to my blog. Today, we are going to talk about an increasingly popular scientific subject, publicly acknowledged as "Psychology"and why is it any of our business and concern to know about this difficult-terminological-oriented subject ?, ''we are not mentally ill'', "I'm not a mental retard, or in depression" but when it comes to reality, each and everyone us is, at some point in our life. So, lets take a deeper analysis and understand about this subject and I totally believe, even if you are not interested in this aspect of science, you will end up observing, on introspection, a deliberate change in your thought process that you held for this subject previously.
What's this science, Psychology all about?
The word "psychology" is derived from a combination of two Greek words "psyche" signifying soul or mind and "logos" meaning study or research. Thus, psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, behaviours, cognitive and mental processes and many more.
Psychology rather than the points mentioned above also scrutinises peoples' perception, emotional reactions, thought process, relationships and treatment of numerous mental ailments and disorders, sounds boring right but let me tell you one thing, the necessity to assist in these various fields of mind is very crucial for welfare and development of human health, your own efficiency, relationships, society, country and whole globe, to be precise. Now, you know something about psychology. Kudos!!! give yourself a round of applause.
Why is telling of your doctor to be a psychologist is a stigma?
I'm totally sure and aware of this fact that we all, somewhere or the other have come across this profession named as "Psychologist" right, ever wondered what people pursuing a profession like that did. If yes, then refresh your knowledge, if not, then today is your lucky day to know about it. But first of all, clear your mindset about everything you know about this subject and listen.
We have been fed with many stupid and ridiculous myths and misconceptions about this field, from none other than the people of society and community we live in, the friend circle we stay in, our own home including your parents and siblings we spend our life with and from our very first step in that we take in schools where we attain education and last but not the least the social media that we are always on, (well don't include this one) its roots originate from umpteen number of places which are very near to us, and its human nature to accept what majority says and to make our-self fit into the division "mentally healthy section of the society", we tend to avoid the importance of seeking for assistance and soul-support, even though we know that we are suffering and need immediate help, we procrastinate things for later, we regret later when the situation has gone beyond repair. The fear of stigma, shame, discrimination and neglect, pathetic fallacy and procrastination prevents people to seek care and treatment for their problems. Which is just equally dangerous as knowing of having cancer in body and then also not taking treatment, wise isn't it.
According to WHO's world health report of Geneva, 4th October-One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives.
Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide. Treatments are available, but nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder never seek help from a health professional. Where there is neglect, there is little or no understanding. Where there is no understanding, there is neglect.
I'll soon be updating to explain about the various myths and misconceptions in the next blog. Till then GOODBYE.
